This new, unique and multi-faceted program is a pilot program developed by the Capitol Quartet along with the Yamaha Corporation of America, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Verizon. The Capitol Quartet will "Adopt-a-Band" in cities across the country that they are booked throughout the year. The goal of this program is to develop and maintain relationships with professional performers, the music industry and the education community to provide inspirational and instructional music materials to inner city students.
Two major components make up the program with the first being a live or on-site component designed to introduce the members of the quartet to the students, educators and administrators. At this initial meeting students will also have the opportunity to work with the quartet members in a masterclass/clinic environment.
After the on-site visit, the relationship between the Capitol Quartet and the students will be fostered through the Internet component which will allow the students to follow the Capitol Quartet as they perform in various cities across the United States over the course of the year and learn from a variety of musicians via web casts, web chats and email. Live performances from the group and joint performances with the adopted bands will also provide the students a broader exposure to music and motivational experiences.
The Adopt-A-School program piggybacks on the VH1 Save the Music program, which outfits schools in major markets with withering band and music programs with instruments and materials. Adopt-A-Band targets these schools to provide supplemental music education reinforcement, inspiration and materials to ensure the success of the band program's rejuvenation.
Partnering with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the first schools that have become a part of this program are Booker T. Washington Middle School and Harlem Park Middle School both located in the city of Baltimore. To learn more about the program please click on this link http://www.bsokids.com/kids/webcast.asp.
